Barolo Bussia 2017 - Giacomo Fenocchio

Druivenras Nebbiolo

Awards "The Giacomo Fenocchio 2017 Barolo Bussia shows a bit more grit and intensity compared to some of the other single-vineyard expressions in this portfolio. The wine reveals a pretty garnet color with medium consistency. There are aromas of wild cherry and dried raspberry, with hints of toasted almond and camphor ash. The finish is mild and moderate in intensity although you do feel the tightness of the tannins in this vintage. They make about 25,000 of these bottles per year, which is quite a bit more than your average Barolo cru." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Ripe strawberries and flowers on the nose with hints of iron. Full-bodied with round tannins that are very velvety and flavorful. Lots of juicy fruit. Wonderful length. Needs three to four years to come together. But impressive. Try after 2024." - James Suckling

"Lustrous mid ruby. Deep nose of cherry with hints of dark spice and just a touch of malt and a hint of mint. Succulent cherry fruit with a touch of gingerbread and gorgeous, finely ground tannins that go on and on without demanding all the attention. Elegant rather than powerful, but skilfully executed." - Jancis Robinson

"The 2017 Barolo Bussia is elegant, layered and mysterious, all of which make it incredibly appealing. Black cherry, spice, licorice, menthol, pine and espresso all open effortlessly in the glass. Deceptively light in its mid-weight structure, the 2017 delivers tons of flavor intensity and character. There is so much to like." - Vinous

"Rose petal, crushed herb and woodland berry aromas mingle with hints of forest floor and vanilla. Full-bodied and elegantly structured, the delicious palate doles out raspberry compote, ripe cherry, licorice and wild herb before closing on a salty note. Noble tannins provide firm support. Drink 2027–2032." - Wine Enthusiast

"As one of the largest crus in the appellation, Bussia is a vineyard of many faces and many expressions. The 2016 Barolo Bussia is redolent of dark fruit, black cherry and tilled earth. Like the other wines in this flight of new releases, this Barolo is short on the small details and long on the broad-brush aromas. Instead of focus, you get a slightly obscured approach. I'd suggest a pairing with a succulent cut of red meat." - 91 punten, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate over de 2016-vintage

"Claudio Fenocchio's largest site for Barolo is Bussia in Monforte, where his vines have an average age of 35 years,. He opts for long macerations and traditional ageing in casks. The nose is dense and reserved, with exuberant sour-cherry fruit. It's lush but burly, very tannic and powerful, with assertive and chewy tannins. It may be somewhat one-dimensional but it certainly shows force and personality. Very long. Drinking Window 2022 - 2038" - 92 punten, Decanter over de 2016-vintage
