Poggio Antico I Poggi 2019 MAGNUM is de hoogst gekwalificeerde wijn van Tenuta Poggio Antico. Gemaakt van de oudste druiven en afkomstig van de allerbeste percelen.
Poggio Antico hoort bij de top-estates in het Toscaanse Montalcino en profiteert van 33 ha wijngaarden die bij de hoogste van de appellatie horen, net ten zuidwesten van het dorp Montalcino. Het wijnhuis dateert uit de 19e eeuw, maar maakt pas wijn sinds de jaren ’70. Het wijnhuis weet altijd een hele zuivere expressie van 100% Sangiovese te brengen in zijn Brunello’s. De wijngaarden worden per micro-perceel heel nauwkeurig bewerkt. Druiven worden hier streng en dubbel geselecteerd. Het wijnhuis is in biologische conversie op dit moment en de Rosso di Montalcino is inmiddels al biologisch gecertificeerd.
Poggio Antico is een van de hoogstgelegen landgoederen in Toscane. In 1984 werd het gekocht door Giancarlo en Nuccia Gloder en in 2017 door een Belgisch bedrijf.
De Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino, de Riserva en de Vina I Poggi worden gedistribueerd via de Place du Bordeaux - dus altijd rond september van het jaar verdelen de negociances in Bordeaux de altijd schaarse wijnen wereldwijd onder de alleen aangesloten wijn-distributeurs waarover wij kunnen beschikken via onze wijnmakelaar. Poggio Antico I Poggi 2019 MAGNUM : A new wine for Poggio Antico ushering in the winery’s change in ownership, I Poggi is a vineyard rather than cask selection. The 2.5 hectare plot was harvested on three different days to give both freshness and concentration. Intense cedar forest aromas are joined by balsamic herb and spicy oak. Dense and substantial, the palate offers a lot to like. Bright acidity lifts as does a suggestion of bergamot tea. Perceptible wood notes from new casks still need to integrate but grainy tannins should carry this well into the next decade.

Drinking Window: 2025 - 2038
Fragrant and expressive on the nose. wild herbs, pine needles, some hints of Mediterranean scrub, juniper and lavender. Smooth and succulent, supple and agile in the mouth, scintillatingly fresh. Lean and tense in the slight tightness to the tannins and acidity - both channeling the wine in quite a straight line right now, but there's supreme depth on offer, a layering of elements and an elongated fresh finish with a cool lift. Cherries, cranberries, some bloody orange and almost peach pit with a gravelly understone offering wet stones. Grippy and intense, yet reigned in and suave. Not yet demonstrating full greatness but it hints at it.
